Send a Letter of Support to Your Representative
About 2/3 of NERRS’ funding comes from the federal government, and we ask that you join us in writing or emailing your Senators and Representatives urging them to sustain this funding immediately. Here are a few reasons why:
The 10 Reserve sites in North Carolina protect 44,000 acres of estuaries along the NC coast.
These estuaries serve as the primary breeding grounds for fish, shrimp, and other sea life.
These estuaries help absorb the surges of seawater driven in to the coast by hurricanes and other storms, then release it slowly and safely as storms subside. Without the estuaries, storm damage to our fishing and shrimping industries as well as to coastal homes, businesses, and the firms that insure them would be incalculably greater, year after year.
The Reserve sites also draw thousands of tourists to our coast, tourists who fill our coastal resorts, hotels, motels, restaurants, shops and other businesses. If the sites fall into disuse and disrepair due to lack of funding, our tourist industry will suffer serious losses.

Here is a sample letter that you may edit.
